This came out and we forgot to talk about it!

This 7" is basically the the songs from Fair Ohs first tape Pacific Rim plus 4 songs from the same era.
We have kinda changed things up a bit but still love these songs, sometime dropping them into a set for fun or too piss people off. This is us flexing more of our garage punk hardcore stuff, when we were ripping on Das Oath more than African folk music, more Nuggets than Mississippi!

Get it here, its on lovely blue vinyl and for some of you it will be the best thing we have done, for others the worst, you decide. Either way, buy it.

My aims with Dream Beach Records are fairly simple - I want to get people like me and my friends, people who are into indie and punk music, to listen to African and non-western music. Bands like Animal Collective, Vampire weekend, Gang Gang Dance - and of course the wonderful Fair Ohs, that I am in - have done a fair amount to open up audiences to the idea of non-western music, and Idon't think it's seen as such a cheesy 'World Music' cliche anymore."

"Nguuni Lovers Lovers are from a small town called Mlolongo in Kenya. They play a form of Kenyan guitar music called Kamba that's fast and repetitive but always super melodic. There's not been much Kamba music released in the west, so even though it shares a lot of similarities with some other Kenyan genres it'll definitely stand on its own."

"Hopefully, if we can release contemporary African music in the same way as a release from an East London indie band for example, Dream Beach can go some way towards helping African and non-western music become even more accepted. Anyway, I'm bloody excited."

Tonight we are going to see our friend Rory Bratwell to off finish the last bits to what will be our first Album . Rory has a lovely little studio which is a 4 minute walk from my flat and a 2 min walk from Faulkners Fish & Chips Shop which does some mean fish cakes that sits well with a side of chips and curry sauce. FYI Rory is an indie rock legend and directly influenced the summer of New Rave just like Minor Threat showed people it was fun to not have fun.

If you think that Fair Ohs were at their best when they played 1 minute long hardcore garage punk ditties with lots of noise and feedback before they took their shoes off like hippies and started singing about beaches and playing sitars like some balding yet ponytailed sandle wearing world music mutherfuckers then i'm sorry, you're gonna hate this shit.

If you realised that only listening to fast music and being a 'punk' wasnt as important as mortgages, financial stability, nice meals, holidays without your parents, spongebob drumsticks, guitars that dont stay in tune because they look so FUCKING good and cost a packet,a nice bottle of whiskey for when you get homeafter your 9-5 kickass upper management job, tapping in on the bendy bus and shoes without holes, then you are in for a treat.

Who cares though right, as long as people think we still sound like AV meets VW, we're bound for mad dollars, am i right?

We only have 3 shows left before the end of the year, which we think you should come join us for, they will all be a blast!

The first is at the the Old Blue Last for the lovely people at Dance Magic Dance who have got us playing live with Awesome Tapes From Africa, doing his only London DJ Slot. This is the man behind the awesome blog of the same name that does what it says in the title, posting up awesome tapes from Africa for everyone to download. I think all of Fair Ohs have downloaded some killer tunes from this dude!

Then we play a one off acoustic show for our friends at Flashback Records on Essex Road in Angel, London. This is happening on December 10th at 7pm for their Xmas party and will be a great time to buy loads of good second hand records. They have a selection of 60's garage punk LP's that drains my wallet everytime i go in there to see Kevin and Robin from Male Bonding. As it is a shop,we cant use full drums, so we will be doing a stripped down set for the first time ever, ethno acoustic jams forever!

Final show is with Mr Ty Segall on 12th December, which i'm psyched for as i have spent more than enough time with his last 3 records on repeat (seriously, 'Sad Fuzz' from his new record 'Melted' = Tune!). And as if it couldn't get any better, we get to play with the ever handsome bro's in SAUNA YOUTH on the same bill!! Fuck, they are my band of 2010, no doubt. This will be in Brighton @ Jam, see you theres yo!

We headed overseas, this time without the backup of Cold Pumas, and played in Rome which provided lots of free cocktails, nice pasta, some Britpop and no sleep.

A few days of fun in Europe with Cold Pumas, and this time Joe Ryan made it, along with our faithful driver and eater of cookies, Fessey. Unfortunately the curse of Fair Ohs abroad hit again, this time our van broke down in the North of Holland and the rest of the trip involved alot of trains, staying in seperate cities, meltdowns in mercedes dealerships and a HUGE loss of funds, fun!

Imagine the crowd/promoter must've been dissapointed that neither Fair Ohs or Cold Pumas were Male Bonding. Nothing Hurts eh?

We stayed above a medical research factory in paris, with the largest recored collection i've ever drooled over.

The hotel in Amsterdam was previously a prison in the War, which Joe mistook as a Concentration Camp when he went to check us in.

We went to Sardinia to play Here I Stay Festival but Joe stepped on a sewing needle that his housemated had drunkenly left in the floor so he went and had an operation to cut it out whilst we flew off to Sradinia with our bros COLD PUMAS. It sucked we didnt get to play and we missed Joe, but it was a great weekend in the sun with 2/3 of Fair Ohs, 3/3 Cold Pumas and Mr Rory Bratwell!!

The lovely Hum Stephens had us in for a session on radio 1 at Maidavale which was aired last wednesday. If you hit up the radio 1 website and look at Huw Stephens show, you will see a few videos of us playing, one of which i've posted below for 'Almost Island'

We also did a little interview and recorded 4 songs with him which was amazing, something i have always wanted to do. the whole maidavale team were all really cool and helpful and prevented a matt flag meltdown when his bass amp and delay pedals died, by wheeling out a nice 60's bass amp, score!

We Went North!

We decided to leave the sunny and warm confines of our East London home base for the arctic conditions of the 'The North'. To drive us we had this guy below, Stephen Gordon Fessey.

He is the funniest miserable guy and gets pretty rowdy for a sober dude. He said i didnt get enough Dick in this picture but i beg to differ. He took all these lovely photos, apart from the ones of him, i took them.

This is Louis. He is also know as the man behind Spectrals, who are collectively half my age with twice the talent , nice. Louis was kind enough to put us up after our show together in Leeds with Real Estate. Real Estate were great, amazing in fact but i kept on thinking that the guitarist looked a little like Hank Azaria, which was cool.

Fessey, Louis and Fair Ohs decided to join the Tommy Cooper Appreciation Club, these are our application pictures. Marvel at the wallpaper in casa Jones, want it.

This is Barney, Louis' dog who was pretty smart in his blue necktie and shaggy blonde hair. Bobby was the other dog who had a matching red necktie but was alot older and wasnt so mobile, but still pretty awesomes.

Don't know whose cat this was, she was awesome but kindy whiney, i think she was in heat and wanting a piece of SGF.

The North.

Before skipping town Louis took us to get a pub lunch at the local pub, which happened to have Goats outside. 3 of them. Strange but really exciting to 4 southerners.
This one was eyeballing us.

We then hit Nottingham and met up with Brighton babes Cold Pumas. They are both incredibly handsome and adept at playing a riff for a long time. Patience and beauty are a virtue. They ruled it hard with running man moves. Spectrals also slayed for the second night, even with the top quality heckling from SGF.

Spectrals drummer Will was pulling a second night on grey tracksuit bottoms and a bright green Nike tee, i was jealous of how comfy he looked. We also realised that Olly Cold Pumas & Eddy Fair Ohs do great impression of each that got gradually crueler as the night went on, Eddy didnt get the memo that some jokes were off limits.

This picture is a visual representation of how close we were when we all 7 of us squeezed onto a small Nottingham floor space. Apart from the smells that came from Eddy's sleeping bag, that cant be captured on film. Cambridge came next, i wanted to be in bed watching Gilmore Girls, exactly.

Lunchtime drinking, veggie burgers and selling tapes made for a good day, being drunk when playing at 4pm made it even better. Old Man Winter is upon us, so i have just ordered some good films and boxsets to get me through the cold season. You may notice a lack of Fair Ohs shows in this period, and we will tell you were are busy writing and recording songs, but that's a lie. We will be watching these gems, drinking egg nogs and high fiving each other when when Anthony Michael Hall gets drunk in the blues club.

For the feel good factor and the it-will-all-be-alright-in-the-80's touch

This was the only film played on Thailand & Cambodia's HBO for about a week whilst we were out there, so we watched it quite alot before passing out in the sweltering heat. Good / bad horror with the dude from True Blood / Home & Away and Donny Wahlberg.

How can you go wrong with zombie Nazis in the Norwegian mountains?? Thanks for the hook up Conan!

This is an amazing compilation, like all the other Mississippi Records comps, with this being all African Highlife/R&B/Blues, amazing stuff!

As much as the Mississippi comps and reissues of 1920's blues, 60's Soul, garage rock, African highlife and RNB are probably my favourite find this year, i hear that they dont pay royalties to the orginal artists and have been known to just reissue stuff without asking, which is pretty much bootlegging, so here are the links to download alot of this stuff, as its all out of print anyway.
